The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) recently granted free access to all research it has funded or implemented. All research is available on PMC, the free, full-text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal literature at the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Library of Medicine (NIH/NLM).
There are currently 956 publications available, with additional ones in the process of being added.
NASA's decision to provide open access to its research is a fundamental aspect of open innovation which is increasingly being adapted world-wide. Examples of this include:
The European Commission has launched the European Open Science Cloud, an initiative designed to improve collaboration between scientists and researchers across Europe and world-wide.
Philips has launched its "Simply Innovate" Portal, which provides public access to its ongoing research and innovation initiatives and invites the submission of new ideas.
Engie Fab is an open access initiative that provides funding and support for energy projects as well as the opportunity to support existing initiatives.
Nestle has launched Henri Nestle, an open innovation platform that allows researchers to participate in Nestle projects and submit innovations.
Sanofi has developed an open innovation and research access platform, which researchers and developers can freely access and participate in.
CIE supports the process of open innovation, both in terms of structuring open innovation initiatives for companies and research institutes, as well as in terms of research and trend analysis in the sector.
